"Our research focus is on the impact of drug therapy on human health and quality of life," says Dr. Carleton, "my lifelong goal is to make medication use more effective and safer for all patients, particularly children." He is particularly interested in developing better ways to evaluate the effectiveness of drugs and practical surveillance systems to improve the safe use of medication. Dr. Carleton has clinical interests in asthma, as well as the epidemiology, pharmacogenomics and clinical management of adverse drug events.

"A key element of our research is the communication of results to clinicians, patients, healthcare administrators, and government staff who also hold responsibilities to improve patient care and its delivery by the healthcare system."
