Our research led by Dr. Mariana Brussoni focuses on understanding the importance of outdoor play for children’s healthy development, and how the built outdoor environment impacts children’s outdoor play.
We are also interested in understanding injuries in children and youth, and measuring the physical, psychosocial and financial impacts of injuries on children, their families and the health care system.
Our research consists of two broad research programs:
- The CHILDS Play (Creating Healthy Inspiring Landscape Designed Spaces for Play) research program at CFRI aims to define children’s playability of the outdoor environment and the impact of outdoor play on their physical and psychological development.
- The Injury research program at BC Children’s Hospital focuses on understanding injuries in children and youth, and factors involved in injury risk for children to measure the physical, psychosocial and financial impacts of injuries on children, their families and the health care system.
Our research will help inform development of evidence-based policies, programs and interventions that promote children’s outdoor active play as well as guides for injury prevention activities.
