Recruitment and Training Opportunities
Over the next few years, as CFRI and the Genetics & Health research cluster continue to grow, we anticipate recruiting two clinical geneticists, four genetic counsellors and two laboratory scientists. In addition, we plan to hire additional administrative and research support staff, such as a science researcher and a research administrator.

All of the CFRI Genetics researchers are involved in teaching and professional training, and we expect to expand the number of training opportunities available over the next few years. The Genetics theme is associated with the University of British Columbia’s Department of Medical Genetics, which is one of the most active sites for genetics and genomics training in Canada. The Department operates undergraduate courses, an M.Sc. and PhD research training programme, and M.Sc. genetic counsellor training program, postdoctoral research training in many areas of genetics and genomics, Canadian College of Medical Geneticists clinical fellowships for physicians and PhDs, and a Royal College Residency Programme in Medical Genetics.

In addition, many of the Genetics researchers are key mentors with the CIHR-sponsored Interdisciplinary Women’s Reproductive Health Research Training Program, an interdisciplinary graduate training program and scholarship funding program. By providing a mentored research experience that bridges basic science and social science expertise for medical and graduate students as well as for postdoctoral fellows, the IWRH training program aims to increase the number of highly trained and well-rounded investigators embarking on independent scientific careers in women’s reproductive health.
