Summary

As a neonatologist I take care of very sick newborns infants who suffer a great variety of clinical and surgical problems. The main focus of my research agenda covers aspects related to infection, cardiac and respiratory problems of this vulnerable population.

As Program Director of the Neonatal - Perinatal Fellowship Program I'm also interested in the training and education of future neonatologists. We have physicians coming from all over the world to receive training in our facility.

Current Projects

Death in Canadian Neonatal Intensive Care Units: exploring the ethical determinants
The specific objective of this study is to determine the process and causes of death in neonates after their admission to NICUs in Canada: obtaining this information should provide insight and possible answers to the research questions posed above

Early ACTH test and hypotension in preterm babies born at 24-30 weeks
This is a pilot study to determine if hypoadrenalism is a contributor to hypotension in the first days of life in preterm newborns in order to identify future patients who therefore could benefit from early steroid treatment.
