Commercialization activities at UBC and its Affiliated Hospitals are facilitated by the University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO), established in 1984.

UBC and its Affiliated Hospitals view the technology transfer process as a key part of the research and development cycle. This process ensures medical diagnostic and therapeutic advances in basic and applied research are shared rapidly with the wider community. The UILO actively seeks to commercialize technologies originating at the various Affiliated Hospitals.

Each Affiliated Hospital site has a dedicated Technology Transfer Manager who meets with individual faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff members to discuss:

  • Potential invention disclosures
  • Patent filings
  • Collaborative research agreements
  • Non-disclosure agreements
  • Marketing of technology
  • Licensing possibilities
  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Proof of Principle (PoP) applications
For further information on Technology Development for CFRI and Children’s & Women’s, please contact Jennifer Lynett, PhD, Technology Transfer Manager, or visit the UILO website.
